11/04/2003: "VOTE TODAY!"

Don't forget to let your voice be heard in local government -- vote today! Polls are open from 7 AM to 8 PM in Perkasie. Ward 1 votes at the Perkasie Firehouse; Ward 2 at the Pennridge Senior Center; and Ward 3 at St. Andrews Lutheran Church.

I urge you to read through my post yesterday regarding write-in votes for the incumbents -- scroll down, or click here. Many races were decided in May by just a handful of voters; it's not too late to change the outcome if you choose to do so today!

Check back here late tonight; I expect to post results of the Borough Council races as soon as I know them.

One must wonder, had the *preferred* candidates had won the May primary if
the, now apparently huge, problem of "voter apathy" would be the catastrophe
it is perceived, by some, to be today. I for one, resent having the results
of a fairly held primary election, in which I participated, negated by the
losing candidates because, in their opinion, not enough people voted. Low
turnout has been the norm in local, indeed even national elections, for some
time. Accusing all of us who voted of being, quote (by Bob Bergy, Nov 3),
"manipulated by an out-of-control Republican machine in Perkasie" will, of
course, ultimately backfire and have the opposite effect than the one
desired. It will be interesting to see how many other voters who, as I,
would have considered the write ins, had this accusatory tone not been
taken.

Phil, if I thought the Primary had been fairly held, I wouldn't have said what I said. But that's the issue. Hettel and his cronies manipulated the endorsement process, doing it in such a way as to intentionally exclude the incumbents with whom he did not get along. I can go into details again if you want, but we've been through this before. The whole point is that the Primary was NOT fair, and that's why a significant group of concerned citizens urged the incumbents to run again as write-ins in this election.
